| Norma Fingland
Norma began "treading the boards" in 1988 where she appeared in EKLOC's production of The Merry Widow. She remained with that company until 1998 playing such roles as Nettie Fowler (Carousel), Meg Brockie (Brigadoon) and Aunt Eller (Oklahoma!) - a role she reprised for us in 2004! But Theatre Guild seems to have brought out the best of Norma. Since joining us in 1998 she has played Helen Walsingham (Half-A-Sixpence), Bloody Mary (South Pacific), The Wicked Witch of the West - or "WWW" as she become known - (The Wizard of Oz), Nickie (Sweet Charity), Aunt Eller (Oklahoma!) and in 2005 the title role in Hello Dolly! This year she plays Conchita in Copacabana.
She has particularly enjoyed the dancing opportunities that Theatre Guild has offered, Bloody Mary's teeth and padding (it wasn't real folks), WWW's wig and Nickie's suspenders (also particularly enjoyed by the audience it should be said!).
Norma trained in piano, singing and oboe at the RSAMD from 1977-81 ... (she hasn't played the oboe since!) and now teaches primary school music. Off stage she sings in Hutchie Choral Society, enjoys gardening and the gym and is the accompianist for our busy Concert Party.
Her first EVER performance was as Nanette in a production of No, No Nanette. Spill the beans, Norma ... we want more details!! On top of this she refuses to tell us a SECRET! We may have to make something up.
One of her weirdest experiences in theatre was during EKLOC's production of Show Boat. She was made up black in Act I, white in ACT II and then played the Mother Superior in the same act. If this wasn't difficult enough, she had to perform this medical miracle with the aid of only a bucket of warm water in the dressing room!!
