| Gill Gilmour
Gill joined Theatre Guild in 2005 securing the role of Ermengard in our September production of Hello, Dolly!. More recently she opened the show for our production of Kiss Me Kate as Hattie, singing that most famous of show tunes "Another Op'nin', Another Show"! This year she features as a principal singer in Copacabana. Gill's first acting role was Miss Hannigan from a scene in Annie as part of a cabaret concert ... but, she can also recall an early role as 'Narrator' for a primary school choir performance of "Jonah and the Whale" and she has early memories of another production where she was a "Red Blood Cell" - although she can't remember why, exactly! Perhaps this was an earlier life? Then she played the part of Katie Brown in Gryffe High's production of Calamity Jane in November 2004 alongside fellow Theatre Guild member Lindsay McCourt. Coincidently, Suzanne Lowe was in the audience of that school show and she played Katie Brown in The Guild's 1997 production of Calamity Jane! Suzanne was so impressed that she agreed with Cammy to approach Gill and ask her to audition for Theatre Guild ... and the rest is history!
Gill joined Starlight Youth Music Theatre at 16 for 2 years and has completed a Higher course in Drama at Gryffe High School - she also played sax in the school band! She secured a place at Glasgow Caledonian University to study Criminology - she should have a good career in Taggart, then!
When not on stage she likes to keep herself busy! She runs a local Brownie Pack, and also helps out at Girl Guides every week after Brownies has finished. She is also the Youth Worker for her village - which basically means she put on fun events for kids during the various holidays throughout the year - She gets paid to have fun, how good is that?! Gill likes her nights out on the town, having the "occasional" Irn Bru and tries to spend a lot of time with her mates! You'll often see her driving about in her wee car (which can be identified by the collection of empty Irn Bru cans in the back seat alongside various "props" from Brownie, Youth and Drama projects!!). Occasionally she likes to eat and sleep, but only when she gets the time!
Asked for a funny theatre story, Gill said "On the first night of "Calamity Jane" we were just at the start
of the second act in Calamity's cabin - having just finished "A
Woman's Touch" - when suddenly the audience started to laugh.
This made Calam and myself really worried because we didn't
know why the audience were laughing at a bit they weren't
supposed to. We found out in our next costume change that one
of the walls behind us had fallen down mid-conversation!!! But
being the professionals that we are (ie we were so busy
trying to remember our lines that we were oblivious to what was
going on) we carried on!!"
(Gill's secret: She is a huge footy fan (watching and playing) and still 'works her magic' on the pitch when she gets a chance!)
