Catherine Mackenzie

Catherine Mackenzie

Catherine joined The Guild in 2007 and immediately impressed the audition panel by securing the role of Doatsy Mae in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She first began treading the boards in her home town of Halifax playing the title role in Annie (aged 12) followed by Sandy in Grease the following year! Since then she has played a variety of roles including 'Mother Superior' at the Edinburgh Fringe with Stage 84 (Bradford) and Mary in Merrily We Roll Along directed by Paul Kerryson of the Leicester Haymarket. She lists her finest moment as playing the Bullfrog in Honk! .

Catherine was trained in Acting and Musical Theatre at the Birmingham School of Speach and Drama. She counts herself fortunate to have worked with many professional directors, choreographers and vocal coaches there. In addition she took part in numerous workshops with David Kernan (a Sondheim legend!) in Covent Garden

Her first EVER performance was as Gretel in The Sound of Music at the tender age of 5. When not on stage she works for the Yorkhill Children's Foundation in the Charities Admin. office. In the summer months she is a 'golf widow' so Theatre Guild gives her plenty to do!! Catherine and her husband celebrated the arrival of baby son Matthew Ross on the 9th of April 2008.

Recalling a funny stage moment Catherine says "When playing Gretel in the Sound of Music I ran for my bow on the last night and tripped over my skirt, fell flat on my face and sobbed my little heart out for the entire finale." [This girl has a sick sense of humour! Ed.] (Catherine's secret: She can't keep secrets - so don't tell her any!!)
