Cameron Lowe

Cameron Lowe

Cameron has participated in almost every production since he joined the cast of The Unsinkable Molly Brown in 1985. He assures us that he was VERY young at the time! His first principal role was as delivery boy, Carl, in our 1989 production of Bells Are Ringing opposite his (then) new bride, Suzanne. But it was to be 6 more years before he would land the role of Will Parker in Oklahoma!. From there he went from strength to strength playing Rusty Charlie (Guys And Dolls), Francis Fryer (Calamity Jane), Arthur Kipps (Half-A-Sixpence), Luther Billis (South Pacific), Scarecrow (The Wizard of Oz), Vitorrio Vidal in Sweet Charity, Curly in Oklahoma!, Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly!, Paul / Gremio in our 2006 production of Kiss Me Kate and, most recently, the Narrator in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

In between all of this he has squeezed in principal roles with 'Guys And Gals Theatre Company' (Riff - West Side Story) and East Kilbride Light Opera Club (Harry Ritchie - Brigadoon). He has been a busy member of our committee since 1993 and currently holds the posts of Club Secretary and Web Site Administrator. In 2002 his efforts on behalf of the club were recognised as he was presented with the Billy Love Award. Cameron was made an Honorary Life Member of Theatre Guild in 2008.

He tells us his most demanding role to date was as Kipps in Half-A Sixpence. Not because of the 11 songs. Not because of the 76 pages of dialogue. But because Julie Ballantyne made him work so hard!! We asked Cammy to recall a funny theatre story: "While playing the role of Og (the magic leprechaun in Finian's Rainbow) I had to produce a mail order catalogue 'as if by magic' for some children to choose gifts from. This was done by pushing my hand through a gap in the backcloth and a stage hand would put the catalogue in my hand (can you see where this is going?). On the last night of this school show, the stage crew pulled their practical joke by replacing the catalogue with a pornographic magazine!!".

Off stage he likes to spend time with his family, play 5-A-Side football and tinker with this web site! (Cammy's Secret: he's a closet Trekkie ... oh, and he 'photoshopped' his web site picture!!)
